Additional Saudades de Rock Information

Extreme is a US Rock band that achieved popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Some of Extreme's influences, Queen and Van Halen (the latter of which Gary Cherone would eventually join and later leave), are readily apparent from their music's multi-part vocal harmonies and electric guitar tone and instrumental techniques. The band lends the listener a sound that blends the genre of glam metal with the shredding guitar work of thrash metal. Being asked about their style, Extreme categorized their music as 'Funky Metal'. Extreme has released four studio albums, two EPs (in Japan) and two compilations since its formation. The band was one of the most successful of those from the early 1990s, selling over 10 million albums worldwide. Extreme rose to fame with its 1990 release Pornograffitti, which peaked at #10 on the Billboard 200.

What Customers Say About Saudades de Rock:

That range goes from the hip-hop/spoken word jam of King of the Ladies to the classic Extreme power ballads of Ghost and Interface. It is still a great album that continues Extreme's growth out of "yet one more 80s hair band" stigma. If you're like me you wanted this album to be another III Sides, but it isn't. To show they know where they came from, they put in the guitar heavy, funkification that is Slide. Much like III Sides, this album shows that Extreme is so much more than just your average rock band. These guys put forth an album that defies definition because it ranges so widely. And for fans of the third side of III Sides, they threw in the longer, richer Last Hour and Peace (these don't reach the level of III sides, but are still pretty good). I hated to see these guys depart, especially so shortly after III Sides, but I am glad they're back and I hope this is just the first in a long line of great new Extreme releases.

But there are no scorchers. Disappointment. I have been waiting and waiting AND waiting for Extreme to get blazing again like they did for their debut and Pornografitti. And they had a couple of other slower songs that would have complimented some scorchers incredibly well. But just becaue I fall for it doesn't mean you have to. I was hoping this hiatus would bring Nuno back ready to get after it, if not the rest of the band.

Yes I will. There you go, straight to the point. Well to put it in rock and roll terms, I won't get fooled again. Its almost like they are getting softer now on purpose, which is REALLY annoying. For those of us in our late 30's, King of the Ladies will be enjoyable purely for nostalgic reasons. Nuno flashes enough genius at you to let you know he still has it and maybe, just maybe he will unleash it better in the next one.

You are not missing anything here.

This is the best Extreme album, maybe the best rock album ever. and I bought Pornograffiti back in the day.

there are some great songs on the album and some that I certainly could have done without. Cool to have Nuno on vocals. It's a little all over the place, which what Extreme album isn't. Anyone that has lost someone close to them will relate to this song.

Great lyrics though.Flower Man. It's OK.'King of the Ladies' is a great song. If you're a 1st time listener that doesn't know what Extreme is about, 'Star' could be enough to turn you off right away. to Nuno's Schizophonic album.

The chorus takes some time to get used to. GREAT song.'Sunrise' Blech. This is most apparent on 'Last Hour'. I'm not going to go track for track here. Not so much this time. I would not however have chosen this as the "lead track" from the album.

WTF. Most "Extreme" on the disc. At first I was just too excited and pumped that my favorite band of all time was releaing a new album to care what was on it. I've waited a long time to review Saudades de Rock because I wanted to, and heard that it may need to grow on listeners. I skip it everytime. (Check out 2 Weeks In Dizneyland) This song does nothing for me.(Did I say I wasn't going track for track. 'Learn to Love' I could take or leave. Very nostalgic.

Love the lyrical content here as well. To be fair, I haven't given it a chance. In comparison to the preceding Extreme albums, this one does not stack up in my opinion. Gary pushes to far and hard on some vocals that for one he won't be able to pull off live and two, some of it is just downright hard to swallow. The band put 'Star' on their Myspace page for a while as a teaser and it was great to hear the band back doing what we loved them for in the 1st place. Very "Tragic Comic" like.'Run' I love this song also.

It's always been love at first sight. Really dig this song a lot.'Ghost' is a very moving song. that song will never grow on me. I felt the same way about 'Punchline' also, but that grew on me after a while, so who knows. It's powerful, moving, Gary's vocals are great, the lyrical content is so clever and hearing it produced on a BIG record just made it all that much better. For all of Extreme's career, nothing has had to grow on me.

Not a bad song, but also doesn't want to make me listen to it again.'Interface' Okay, I was SO against Extreme covering the Dramagods version of this song, HOWEVER, this is the best song on the record. Very cool.'Slide' again, could take or leave it. 3 stars from me, mediocre. my wife said "You would never like this song if it wasn't Extreme doing it" I can't answer, I don't know. It moves, great riff, and it's fun. Cool riffs and harmonies. Hasn't grabbed me at all.

Very reminiscant (sp). Oops)Take Us Alive is awesome. 'Nuff said'Peace' Might have to give this more time. Worth the buy though.

Just another awesome album. Nuno's still the best guitarist in the world, Gary's voice sounds great and the whole band still rock :)Lyrics, medolies, everything is perfect.
